Streamer Fishing 301

The time has come to chuck some meat! Streamer fishing involves throwing big flies for big fish. We’ll teach you how to rig and fish these flies for predatory fish.

Every fly angler goes through different stages: first it’s nymphing and being happy to catch any fish. Then dry flies for a little extra challenge and nerdy-ness. Then often the final stage is streamer fishing. Throwing big flies for big fish. Streamer fishing takes different equipment, rigging, and techniques than any other type of fly fishing. It also takes a different angling mentality and water reading to hunt for big fish.

In this 3hr class, we’ll teach you about different types of streamers, how to rig them, find big fish holding spots, and how to effectively work water using a streamer. The first hour will cover the different types of streamers, and knowing which one to use. Then we’ll cover the equipment like rods, lines, and knots needed to fish them effectively. Then we’ll head to the water and learn to identify big fish holding water, and how to fish streamers effectively in different sections of the stream. Then with the remaining time, we’ll split up and do some DIY fishing. The techniques shown will be effective for catching trout and bass on streams.

This class is good for intermediate anglers who have a strong enough foundation in fly fishing to fish independently. This is a good next step for those who have completed our 201 fly fishing class. Anglers will need to provide their own equipment and flies, and state fishing license. A detailed supply list will be sent out prior to the class.

This class is a prerequisite for: DIY Montana Camp, DIY Bass Camp.
