This is the ultimate level-up of your fly fishing skills. Learn how to row a drift boat!

Ready to take your fishing further? The Frequent Fisher Club gives you free, unlimited access to all 301-level classes plus eight exclusive member benefits, including discounts on trips and courses, early and priority access, member-only fishing opportunities, expert insights, and a connected network of anglers focused on fishing for joy, confidence, and community.
We are the only guide service in the Midwest offering a class like this! This 301 level class is for intermediate-advanced skill anglers who want to learn how to row a drift boat or raft on medium to large-sized rivers like the St. Croix and Mississippi. We’ll teach you how to properly set up the boat for safe and comfortable fishing, how to read water so you can avoid water hazards and find good fishing spots, and teach you how to row through rapids and other tough conditions like a pro.
Our guides have many years of drift boat rowing experience and are patient, fun-loving teachers who aren’t afraid to bump off some rocks or get a little water over the side. We believe the best way to learn and mess up is with us in the boat with you, so hit that rock and we’ll teach you how to get unstuck! We can take 2 anglers per boat, and while one of you row, then other can fish as the guide coaches you along the river. At certain intervals, you’ll switch places between rower and angler, so you can both have lots of time to row and fish.
These classes start at 9:00am and will last roughly 4 hours, sometimes up to 5 or 6 hours depending on conditions or the number of river miles. Drift boat rowing classes will take place primarily on the upper St. Croix River near Grantsburg, WI, but local weather and water conditions will dictate specifically where we go. We may also row on the Mississippi, Rum, or Snake Rivers if needed.
Forget everything you know about canoeing and kayaking! Rowing a drift boat is a totally new and unique skill that most anglers come to love just as much- or more than- fishing itself.
This class is a prerequisite for: DIY Bass Camp, DIY Musky Camp, and DIY Montana Camp.
