Learn how to excel at targeting your favorite fish through the ice!

Ready to take your fishing further? The Frequent Fisher Program gives you free, unlimited access to all 301-level classes plus eight exclusive member benefits, including discounts on trips and courses, early and priority access, member-only fishing opportunities, expert insights, and a connected network of anglers focused on fishing for the joy, confidence, and community.
In this 6-hour course, we’ll get into the weeds on targeting and catching the species of your choice under winter conditions. We’ll teach you the exact rods, reels, electronics, rigging, and baits to use for walleye, northern pike, panfish, trout, walleye, and more, and how to fine-tune your approach for each.
You’ll learn how to present and work jigs, spoons, and live-bait rigs with precision to trigger strikes in cold-water conditions. We’ll cover the natural history and winter biology of your target species and show you how seasonal ice, oxygen levels, light, and structure shape their movements and feeding behavior—so you can fish smarter, not just harder.
You’ll learn how to:
- Select specialized ice rods, reels, lines, and leaders for advanced techniques and species
- Rig and fish jigs, spoons, tip-ups, and dead-sticks for walleye, pike, trout, and panfish
- Use sonar and underwater cameras to locate fish, read their behavior, and dial in presentations
- Execute advanced hole-hopping and setup strategies for different depths, structures, and bite windows
- Read ice-covered water to identify high-percentage travel routes, feeding zones, and holding areas
- Understand winter habitat use, seasonal movements, and feeding patterns
- Fish with intention, precision, and confidence on the ice
Ice Fishing 301 is ideal for anglers who already know the basics and have intermediate ice-fishing skills, and are ready to move beyond general fishing into true winter specialization—fine-tuning their gear, tactics, and strategy to pursue fish more effectively and consistently all season long.
