Smallmouth 301

Smallmouth Bass on the fly is the best thing since sliced bread! Learn how to target and fly fish for these amazing creatures in our local rivers.

What really puts Minnesota on the map as a fly fishing destination is our smallmouth bass rivers. They’re big, they’re mean, they eat big flies, they’re acrobatic fighters- what’s not to love? Smallies require having a wide breadth of techniques from stripping streamers, dead drifting crayfish, and popping frogs that makes them an exciting target for fly anglers.

In this 3hr class, we’ll show you all the best flies and how to use them for smallies. We’ll also show you how to read water and find the spots that they’re sitting in while wading. These classes take place at our bass camp cabin in Pine City MN, located right on the Snake River- one of the best smallie rivers in the state! We’ll cover flies and rigging in the cabin, then head to the river to read water and practice various techniques, then we’ll wade around for some DIY fishing to test out your new knowledge. This class is perfect for intermediate anglers who want to learn who to fly fish for smallmouth bass, especially while wading, and is a good next step for anglers who completed the 201 class.

This class is a prerequisite for: DIY Bass Camp.
