Fly Fishing 201

Learn how to level up your fly fishing skills!

In this 3 hour course, we’ll build on the fundamentals and dive deeper into the techniques and knowledge that help anglers become more confident and effective on the water. Designed for those who have some fly fishing experience or recently took our 101 class, this 201 class focuses on understanding fish, food, and reading water—and how to put it all together on a trout stream. This class happens on a local trout stream and a fishing license will need to be purchased separately.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Identify aquatic insects and match bugs to flies
  • Choose and fish a wider variety of fly patterns
  • Tie advanced knots and build more effective rigs
  • Understand fish biology, behavior, and species identification
  • Read rivers, moving water to find fish-holding areas
  • Perform more advanced casts for accuracy, distance, and control
  • Apply these skills while catching trout

This hands-on class emphasizes practical skill-building and time on the water, helping you move from “knowing the basics” to fishing with intention and strategy. Fishing equipment can be provided. Sessions are held 9am-noon at Glen Park in River Falls, Wi (unless conditions dictate we fish elsewhere.) $125/angler.
